Fox Magic: Martial Feats

May 27th, 2009

Beginning with Martial Power, feats that offered a benefit to a particular race/class combination made their appearance.  These feats often serve to shore up what might otherwise be subpar choices, and to offer a little extra flavor — a tiefling warlock can vengefully spread his Warlock’s Curse around to whoever hits him, while a deva wizard can draw upon the knowledge of past lives to recall extra spells, giving her more to choose from each day when it comes to preparing.

Below, some kitsune feats for martial characters.

Heroic

Cautious Pathfinder
Prerequisite: Kitsune wilder, ranger or rogue
Benefit: When you are attacked by a trap, you can shift 1 square as an immediate interrupt.  In addition, allies within 10 squares of you gain a +1 racial bonus to AC and Reflex defense against traps.

Celestial Leadership
Prerequisite: Kitsune celestial, warlord
Benefit: If an ally you can see becomes bloodied, you can use your favored of Inari ability.  You can choose whether you or the bloodied ally gains the effect.

Fox’s Tail
Prerequisite: Kitsune, rogue
Benefit: When you make a sneak attack, you can forego bonus damage dice in exchange for knocking the target prone.

Prescient Scout
Prerequisite: Kitsune celestial, ranger or rogue
Benefit: When you would be surprised, you can make a saving throw.  If you succeed, you are not surprised.

Shapeshifting Charge
Prerequisite: Kitsune, fighter
Benefit: When you are in fox shape, you may charge an opponent, changing back to humanoid form after you move but before you perform a basic attack or bull rush.

Spirit of the Beast
Prerequisite: Kitsune, ranger, Beast Mastery
Benefit: If an enemy makes a melee attack against you, it provokes an opportunity attack from your beast companion.  If your beast companion is adjacent to you, it can make this attack even if it could not normally reach the enemy (it attacks the enemy’s reaching limb, for instance).  Additionally, your beast companion gains an extra healing surge.

Trickster’s Strategem
Prerequisite: Kitsune wilder, warlord
Benefit: When an ally you can see spends an action point to make an attack, that ally gains combat advantage against one target of his attack.

Paragon

Celestial Beast Mastery
Prerequisite: Kitsune celestial, ranger, Beast Mastery
Benefit: Your beast companion is immune to charm and fear effects.

Distracting Mark
Prerequisite: Kitsune, fighter
Benefit: When an enemy you have marked makes an attack that does not include you as a target, your allies gain a +1 bonus to their next attack that targets that enemy before the start of the enemy’s next turn.

Fey Inspiration
Prerequisite: Kitsune, warlord
Benefit: When you use inspiring word, the target also gains a number of temporary hit points equal to the higher of your Charisma or Intelligence modifier.

Fox’s Fangs
Prerequisite: Kitsune, rogue
Benefit: When you are wielding a dagger and you successfully sneak attack a target using an encounter attack power or a daily attack power, that target also takes ongoing 5 damage (save ends).  If the power already inflicts untyped ongoing damage, that ongoing damage instead increases by 5.

Shapeshifting Surprise
Prerequisite: Kitsune, rogue, Kitsune Shapeshifting
Benefit: When you use your shapeshifting ability to take the form of an adjacent enemy, you gain combat advantage against that enemy until the end of your next turn.  This works only once per combat against any given enemy.

Treacherous Beast Mastery
Prerequisite: Kitsune wilder, ranger, Beast Mastery
Benefit: Your beast companion gains a +1 to attack rolls and a +4 to damage against any target under the effect of a power with the Charm, Fear, or Illusion keywords.  At the epic tier, the damage bonus increases to +6.

Epic

Celestial Kitsune Warrior
Prerequisite: Kitsune celestial, any martial class
Benefit: When you use favored of Inari, you gain a +4 bonus to your next attack roll.

Wild Kitsune Warrior
